Large 'Scribble Vessel' extruded in a single length of clay, hand painted

ANNE LAYCOCK

It is through play, experimentation and by asking “What if” that Anne collects knowledge. She makes notes of all that she discovers whilst she is gathering insight and the understanding of a materials quality along with the limitations of the process she is using. It is this information that dictates her direction and her projects are born from processes not ‘made’.  ideas fall spontaneously and it is only then that the outcome of what she is making is revealed and the process captured and celebrated.

With the ceramic scribbles she playfully uses the extruder as her pencil, drawing with the falling clay into moulds and directly onto kiln shelves. She exploits the inherent plastic qualities of the natural material to create ceramic scribbles in the forms of vessels and wearable sculptures, each piece unique and with its own rhythm.
