DESIGN STARS


Developing the design stars of tomorrow

Entry to the current Design Stars competition is now closed. The 2010/11 competition will be launched at this years Liverpool Design Festival taking place from 18th to 27th November 2010.

Design Stars is a project by Design Initiative for young people aged between 11 and 16 years old.

Open to all secondary schools in Liverpool, the Design Stars competition seeks out the next generation of design stars by challenging pupils to produce innovative and exciting designs in response to live briefs set by professional design teams.

Design Stars aims to encourage the city’s budding design talent to think about the design industry as a realistic career option by working alongside inspirational, professional role models from this exciting sector.

The 2009/10 competition was launched at Liverpool Design Festival 2009. During Spring term 2010, eighteen participating secondary schools in Merseyside benefited from workshop sessions led by designers from video games giant Sony Computer Entertainment, award winning design agency Nonconform and fashion accessory designers to the stars Nook and Willow.

Over 375 young people took part in the workshop programme, and over 170 submitted entries to the competition.

Congratualtions to Laraib Azam of Broughton Hall Catholic High, who we are delighted to announce won theLiverpool ECHO People's Vote with her Zip Ring, designed for Alexa Chung. Laraib will receive two tickets for Leona Lewis's performance on Mon, May 31st at 7.30pm at the ECHO Arena.

Awards Ceremony and Prizes
Overall category winners will be invited to a Design Stars Awards Ceremony at the Liverpool Design Festival 2010, where the next Design Stars competition will also be launched. More details will be released soon, so keep checking....
